Still these special rings create special concerns. All three stone engagement rings have their own issues but nowhere is this more true than with the emerald cut. As you may have read elsewhere either on this site or on other jewelry sites the emerald cut is different from other cuts. It's facets are cut in rectangular ways creating a very special rectangular shaped diamond. This results in a lot of light coming into your diamond, but also means flaws can be more visible to the human eye.

This means clarity is the most important thing to consider with your ring. Don't go and buy the biggest center stone you can afford in your price range. Instead choose a smaller center and side stones that have higher clarity ratings. (VS2 at the absolute bottom, but VVS2 or above is recommended) Moreover, try to pick rings with better color ratings as well (J or better) to get a really special looking ring.

This brings us to our next point about 3 stone emerald cut diamond engagement rings. The size of all three of your stones has to be proportional. There is no absolute rule for this but in general you want a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio for your stones. For example, if you have a 1.5 carat center stone you would want either 0.75 carat side stones for a 2:1 ratio or 0.5 carat side stones for a 3:1 ratio. Some variation within this is fine, but for example 0.2 carat side stone would be too small and 1.5 carat side stones would just look silly.

Finally, there is one other thing to be aware when shopping for 3 stone emerald cut engagement rings. The price of the ring itself can be somewhat expensive since your choice is usually either platinum or 18K gold. Plus, there are 3 settings instead of one so you pay extra for that as well. All this means while three stone designs look great, they come with a price.

This means you should think about your purchase before you buy. If you can' afford good quality diamonds and a good quality ring consider opting for a cheaper solitaire diamond cut. There is no point getting large, poorly cut diamonds. Instead choose a better smaller ring.
